  jimi hendrix - the best ever stone free ...
royal albert hall, london, feb 24, 1969 - a really cool, longer version of stone free, with an unbelievable solo part with plenty of nice, roaring feedback giving you goose bumps. it's obvious hendrix must have been really frustrated over having to play the same songs over and over on these endless gigs out on his utterly crazy concert schedules, and a lot of times with two shows per night. so naturally, he started to experiment with the older songs and extending them, simply out of artistic boredom. unless having access to another source, check out this french site to get a picture of the tight concert schedule hendrix had about right from the start when he came to london on september 24, 1966 - until the very end in september 1970. http://hendrix.free.fr the dude was clearly exhausted from all the touring, partying, and the heavy drug usage that gradually was taking its toll on him, plus the lack of sleep over the years (not to mention his extensive work on his new electric lady studio in the last year), and had needed a longer period to catch up with some serious rest to recuperate. but that never was to be, as he was worried sick about the upcoming legal battles over some stupid contracts he foolishly had signed in the us in the mid 60s, plus having to face the problems he had with his highly suspicious manager mike jeffery (who later was accused of having siphoned off much of hendrix's income and channeled it into off-shore bank accounts, etc). as a basically shy person and not one who liked to bring issues to the edge, all these combining aspects wore down our hero, as circumstantial events caused his death more so than any drug usage per se, or any claimed conspiracy to take his life. hendrix probably had no clue what he was doing when he took 9 vesparax (if it is established that that was the substance and amount he took), a dosage strong enough to incapacitate an entire herd of elephants (not really, but close). no wonder then why he was found by the paramedics fully dressed in a sorry ass state flat on his back in bed, covered in a pool of puke and all over the place, in his nose, down his lungs, with his tongue way down the throat blocking the airways - because even if he had woken up when he started to regurgitate, he couldn't move physically, not a limb, nor control his other bodily functions (which happened once to someone i know, who was stoned and took one vesparax, ending up on the kitchen floor, unable to move for hours, pissing and shitting himself), totally paralyzed by this strong relaxant of the nervous system. so if he did awake, he could do nothing as he asphyxiated on his own vomit. by the gut feeling you get after long experience, the paramedics knew jimi was way gone when they came to the scene. they couldnt even recognize him because of the state he was in, but followed the medical protocol trying everything to revive him, but was pronounced dead shortly upon arrival at the hospital. as the insomniac he was, i believe jimi's intention was to get some sleep before he had to meet some people the next day, and with his enormous capacity to take drugs, he didn't think much of it when he took the sleeping pills and thought he could take a whole bunch, while it came to be his nemesis - or so i hope it was and not by any foul play. but monika dannemann, the skater from hell, was very jealous and may have done jimi in, or contributed to his death by her actions. on the same night they had a bad argument that was recounted by several witnesses. dannemann, for whatever reason (anger/vengeance is implied) seems to have poured large amounts of wine down his throat as he lay choking on his vomit -
